Test of an underground cable of 220 kV and 16 km with 26 joint chambers
LCOE was selected by Red Eléctrica de España, REE, to test, after installation, the longest 220 kV underground cable energized in Spain to date. The cable has a length of more than 16 km, which includes 26 junction chambers distributed by four municipalities in the province of Valencia (Spain), and equipped with GIS terminations at both ends.
To perform the dielectric voltage withstand test, together with the PD measurements, it was necessary to connect the two LCOE resonant generators 260 kV and 83 A in parallel, due to the high capacitance of the cable under test. The highly efficient preparation of the test and the logistics involved, carried out in collaboration with REE, made it possible to reduce the number and duration of interventions in the joint chambers located on public roads, thus minimizing the effects on traffic, and significantly shortening the total duration of the tests.
