Jorge Rovira and Tomás García, members engineers of LCOE R&D department, participated in the puncture test measurement campaign for glass insulators, held from March 16th to 20th at the University of Tampere, Finland, along with other European National Metrology Institutes (NMIs) such as RISE, VTT, INRIM, and TAU, and with the collaboration of HAEFELY.

The comparative measurements are included in Work Package 2 of the ELITE Joint Research Project 24GRD05 “Metrological infrastructure for traceable electrical insulation testing for a reliable power grid,” within the framework of the European Metrology Alliance.

The objective of the measurement campaign carried out in Finland was to compare the dividers and measurement systems previously characterized by the different NMIs, specific designed for very fast transient overvoltage measurements, applying high steepness voltage impulses. During the measurements, the test setup was analyzed, checking the different parameters that influence the measurements and the generated voltage impulses with the aim of developing the best practice guide for calibration of very fast transient dividers and carrying out the puncture test on glass insulators.

The project 24GRD05 ELITE has received funding from the European Partnership on Metrology, co-financed by the European Union’s Horizon Europe Research and Innovation Program and by the Participating States.

EURAMET is the European Metrology Organization. EURAMET coordinates cooperation between National Metrology Institutes and Designated Institutes in Europe in areas such as metrology research, traceability of measurements to SI units, international recognition of national measurement standards, and related calibration and measurement capabilities.
