New HVDC 800 kV generator available at LCOE HV Lab
LCOE, as part of its commitment to technological innovation, has successfully completed a key project for the commissioning of the first HVDC generator with fast polarity reversal in Spain, designed for testing high-voltage direct current measurement dividers and current sensors, insulated DC cable systems, and filters for AC/DC converter substations.

In recent years, HVDC power transmission has gained increasing importance worldwide due to the improvement in power electronics capabilities. HVDC technology is being used for new links between countries and for the construction of very long transmission lines.
The HVDC generator, with a maximum operating voltage of 800 kV (upgraded in the future up to 1200 kV) and output current of 20 mA, has been designed with special features such as very low partial discharge levels, reduced polarity reversal time required for testing devices of LCC systems, and a low ripple factor, suitable for compliance with several of the most relevant international Standards, such as IEC 61869-14 and IEC 61869-15, applicable to HVDC current sensors and voltage dividers, or IEC 62895 Standard applicable to HVDC insulated cable systems.
The commissioning of this new generator at LCOE High-Voltage Laboratory in Tecnogetafe strengthens the LCOE's leadership in technological innovation in Spain and Europe and meet the requirements of manufacturers, transmission system operators and other electrical companies for the improvement and development of electrical power transmission.
